Our names are Ossie and Corinne Pisanu and we are a married couple with five sons, aged 21-28, three of which have disability. Our 26-year-old son has Cerebral Palsy and our 25-year-old twin sons have moderate and severe Autism.
We are the founders of New Era 4 Disability, registered NDIS Providers for Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).
Our Mission
To enhance the quality of life for all participants living in our homes by encouraging capacity building for greater independence, allowing choice and control and encouraging healthy relationships with housemates, families and supports alike.
Our History
As parents, we noticed that there were no existing SIL providers that offered a service like ours. We pride ourselves in putting participants first and working collaboratively with families, formal and informal supports to improve the quality of life for all participants who live in our homes. Openness, Transparency and Respect form the cornerstone of our organisation and our ‘open door policy’ encourages our participants, or ‘housemates’ as we call them, to build and sustain healthy relationships with those close to them.
It is our strongest belief no person with a disability should be forced to accept a room in a house and suburb they don’t want to live in. Then having to live with people they may not have any commonalities with apart from having a disability.
It is extremely rewarding to witness these young adults thriving in their new homes and to see family relationships strengthen and improve, replacing the responsibility of family having to provide support with enjoyable social interactions between Participant and family.
We now have four homes and are committed to supporting participants and their families through the entire process of entering our care and for the entirety of their stay.
